Flashing Texas Instruments TMS320C28x with FlashRunner 2.0

FlashRunner 2.0 supports TI’s C2000™ real-time MCUs over both JTAG and cJTAG, including unlocking devices secured with DCSM and JTAGLOCK.

SMH Technologies is pleased to announce support for Texas Instruments’ TMS320F28x real-time microcontrollers. C2000™ microcontrollers offer low-latency, real-time control across all performance levels and price points. Combined with gallium nitride (GaN) integrated circuits and silicon carbide (SiC) power devices, C2000 real-time MCUs enable higher switching frequencies, greater power density, and improved accuracy and efficiency.

These real-time MCUs suit powertrain, traction, onboard charging, DC/DC conversion and body control applications.

One of the key features of the latest devices in the family is their dual-protocol debugging and programming capability. With support for both cJTAG (compact JTAG) and JTAG, the TMS320F28x devices are fully compatible with FlashRunner technology, giving a streamlined and efficient flashing experience.

DCSM and JTAGLOCK support

Once an MCU has been programmed and secured with a DCSM (Dual Code Security Module) password, FlashRunner can unlock it and reconnect — whether the device needs reprogramming or its security settings need review.

In C2000™ devices from the TMS320F2838x family onwards, the JTAGLOCK feature adds a further layer by blocking debugger access to the device entirely. For those devices, FlashRunner is able to unlock JTAG by supplying the JLM password.

With the added support for the TMS320F2838xD family, FlashRunner can also program dual C28x core devices, as well as their Connectivity Manager based on the Arm® Cortex®-M4 architecture.
